Douglas Feldwick

  • Douglas Feldwick 1847-1913
  • Designer and engraver working in London 1860-1910.
  • Born 1847 in St. Sepulchre, City of London.
  • His father George was an ironmonger and producer of roller blinds (several patents re this).
  • Born Westminster 1823. His mother = Alice Ellen Oxlade. Marlow, 1824.
  • Douglas was baptised 21.1.55 - eight years after his birth.
  • He married in 1873 Mary Ann Mansell; bn. St. Pancras 1842; she died in Fulham in 1888.
  • They lived in Mile End Road, Fulham in 1880s and in Croydon later.
  • In 1871 - his family living in Goss Place, Greenwich.
  • Father = George "independent means" in 1881 ; an annuitant by then.
  • Brother = Charles, a musician. Douglas = an engraver.
  • in 1891 - listed as an "oilman/colour (seller of paints?) living in Fulham with wife and dau Elanor and one servant.
  • In 1901 - "an engraver at his home", Alexandra Rd., Croydon.
  • His dau. Alice (bn. 1874) was a telegraphist and his dau. Elanor (bn. 1876) a piano teacher.
  • In 1911 - "engraver of gold and silver" - 6, Aberdeen Rd., Croydon.
    Died in Croydon 30.9.1913; probate to dau. Elanor who lived with him - for £439.17sh. - granted 23.10.13.
  • He designed some of the earliest postage stamps for the state of Liberia and also proposed designs for stamps of Canada which do not seem to have been approved; he may have submitted stamps for other countries - not yet known.
  • Also did some of the illustrations for an edition "1001 Nights".

Time for an update

LPS Summer Roadtrip

Online isn't the only place LPS will be busy this summer.  We will be appearing at two stamp shows before the end of the year.

Come see us at StampShow 2011 in Columbus, Ohio hosted by The American Philatelic Society (APS).  This year's StampShow is in Columbus, Ohio at the Columbus Convention Center from August 11th to the 14th.  Be sure to visit us at dealer booth #231.

In September, you can find us at the Omaha Stamp Show hosted by the Omaha Philatelic Society.  This year's show will be held at Metropolitan Community College, South Campus, September 10th and 11th.
